Scotland: National Rural NetworkBeverley Maclean, Scottish National Rural Network Regional Coordinator and myself (Norette Ferns, Scottish National Rural Network Website Editor) have just returned from Belfast where we attended the first UK National Rural Network conference. The two day event was a great chance to meet our counterparts in the different regions of the UK and to find out about projects and initiatives happening in other places.
In our Ask an Expert feature, you can put your questions to a range of organisations and individuals with expertise in different areas.
We're off to Ayrshire later today for the Scottish National Rural Network regional event in this area, which takes place tomorrow at the Scottish Agricultural College campus in Auchincruive. We're looking forward to a day of presentations, networking and discussions.
Heavy snow is again causing problems across the country. The Rural Network regional event in Rural Tayside, due to take place in Dunkeld tomorrow, has been postponed because of the weather conditions. And the West Lothian regional event which took place on 24th February in Livingston had to be cut short as there was a lot of snow. However, delegates still heard excellent project presentations, got updates on rural funding opportunities and had the chance to network over coffee and lunch. We'll have an event report and presentations from the day on the site early next week.
Editor's NoteWe'd like to thank everyone who took part in the online survey being run by Ipsos MORI about the Scottish National Rural Network website. The survey closed on Wednesday, and results will inform the future development of the website. Talking of surveys, we had a posting this week in our Forum about higher delivery charges to rural areas. In response, Consumer Focus Scotland got in touch with details of their survey on this very issue. The survey closes today, 12th February, so you'll have to be quick if you want to have your say. You can find out more in Delivery charges survey closes this week.
This week's newsletter has a focus on events. Below you'll find details on a whole range of workshops, conferences and events, from the Local People, Local Paths conference to a befriending event in Dumfries and Galloway. And of course, the regional events programme of the Scottish National Rural Network has been taking us out and about.
Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to complete the short online survey that is currently being carried out on the website by Ipsos MORI. The survey closes on 10th February, which is just days away. So if you haven't taken part in the survey yet, don't miss your opportunity to have your say on the website. The survey should only take between five and ten minutes to complete. Take part in the survey.
Welcome to the Funding Latest newsletter from the Scotland National Rural Network website. Once a month we send out a short special funding edition of our newsletter which gives you regular updates of news, deadlines and announcements about rural funding.
A picture tells a thousand words. It's a well worn cliche, but one I happen to think is true. So, why not share your photos with others in rural Scotland? You can get involved with the website in a number of ways, including adding your photos to our Gallery. We've started the Images of Rural Scotland group with the aim of sharing and gathering lots of photos reflecting all aspects of rural Scotland - from youth projects to natural heritage. And it's easy to do - just follow our new step by step Guide to adding your photos. If you need any assistance just get in touch by emailing editor@ruralgateway.org.uk or calling 01463 251 733.
The regional events programme kicked off again in Callander this week. The day was a great opportunity to meet some users of the website, and hopefully encourage some more people from the area to get involved! The Forth Valley and Lomond event took place at the McLaren Leisure Centre on 19th January 2010. The day was lively with over 100 delegates attending. There was a project showcase, funding updates and the chance to hear about lots of initiatives including presentations from two inspiring projects linking the environment and communities.
