Project in Argyll and Islands using community gardens as a training and learning resource.

Kintyre Environmental Group (KEG) has agreement from the Church of Scotland (landowners) for access to use and develop the garden grounds to the rear of Auchinlee Care Home for Community Benefit on an ongoing basis, on an agreement established in 2000. The ground has been used by Kintyre Environmental Group over the past 9 years and over the past 18 months there have been significant developments with the activities being taken forward by volunteers.

The aim of the project is to further develop Campbeltown Community Organic Garden as a training and learning resource, providing employment and training opportunities and taking forward income generating activities as a Social Enterprise. The project will employ a Co-ordinator to develop an operating plan and take forward a number of activities in the garden :co-ordinate and develop volunteer activity ,provide horticulture training and support ;support employment and training opportunities via employability, Get Ready for Work and Prison Release Scheme; build links with other Campbeltown Initiatives and other local food inititives. Support time will be bought in to assist with producing a development plan and developing the capacity of the staff and volunteers , administrative services will be bought in and infrastructure works will be implemented to improve accessibility to the garden for people of all abilities
