Rural Aberdeenshire event query: Community mobile shops

Does anyone know of any community-owned mobile shops? This was a query we had at the recent Rural Network Rural Aberdeenshire event, and we couldn't think of any.

No mobile shop members of the Community Retail Network

I got in touch with the Community Retail Network to see if they knew of any community-owned mobile shops. They said:

"The answer to your query is that CRN has no members with mobile shops. As I'm sure you're aware there were many of these in the Highlands & Islands in the 1950's-1970's, including many operated by the Co-op. There are still some privately-owned ones in the Western Isles and possibly Orkney, but not Shetland as far as I know. There may be one or two in the Highlands. There are mobile fish vans and banks operating

"However, they have largely gone in recent years due to high fuel costs, better roads and access to supermarkets."

There may be examples in other countries, and the CRN are going to check with their European project partners.
