The funders listed below may also be suitable for community buildings projects. In addition it is worth considering the Scotland Rural Development Programme Rural Priorities and LEADER schemes.
Awards for All funds are available for activities which bring people together, improve their quality of life, encourage them to take part in local activities and help groups to become well organised. Awards from £500 to £10,000
Growing Community Assets aims to strengthen communities by helping them to own, develop and manage their assets. The programme is primarily concerned with physical assets including community buildings. Awards are in the range of £10, 000 to £1m. Growing Community Assets is part of the new Investing In Communities programme opened in June 2010.
The LUPS ERDF Priority 4 eligible areas are: Aberdeenshire, Angus, Argyll & Bute (part), Dumfries & Galloway, East Ayrshire, East Lothian, Moray (part), Perth & Kinross, Scottish Borders, Stirling.
Community facilities must have childcare or education/business centre capacity as part of their plans. 40 percent of eligible project costs can be applied for.
A Scottish Community Project Grant can be made to local Community Groups to fund services of an architect or any other building professional, for example to prepare a feasibility study for a building or environmental project. Maximum grant is £2,000.
ENTRUST do not fund projects themselves but administer the Landfill Communities Fund on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs. The 'Finding Funding' section of their website includes a Funders Directory searchable by local authority area. Some Landfill Communities Fund programmes include restoring churches and historic buildings and improvements to community amenities in their objectives.
The Enhancing Communities scheme can be applied to for 'physical improvements to community facilities and historic buildings/structures'.Use postcode checker on website to check eligibility and forthcoming application deadlines. The Large Grants Scheme is for awards between £10,001 and £50,000 (total project cost should be a maximum of £250,000). The Small Grants Scheme is for awards up to £10,000 (for total project cost to a maximum of £20,000).
