Scotland: National Rural NetworkTwo events have taken place as part of the Scottish National Rural Network - one in Rural Aberdeenshire, the other in Forth Valley and Lomond. At both events, community graveyard projects have been highlighted in the discussion session, so it's becoming something of a theme.
We've never had any articles on graveyard projects on the website, but there seem to be lots of them out there, and ideas for more. In the coming weeks, we'll try to bring you a feature on one of these projects, but in the meantime if anyone has any experience to share on taking on a graveyard project we'd love to hear from you. For example, are there things you need to think about for this kind of project that are different from others? Or do you know about a graveyard restoration/conservation project in your area?
Graveyard projects mentioned at UK National Rural Network event
I'm just back from the first UK National Rural Network Conference in Belfast. During the tourism workshop I was in a Welsh lady mentioned a graveyard project their LEADER LAG had been involved in. There was also a short presentation on the Open Churches project in Wrexham: http://www.openchurchnetwork.co.uk/ They also have a graveyard search section on the website.

Arrochar cemetery website
The Arrochar, Tarbet and Ardlui Heritage website has a great feature about the Arrochar cemetery. You can take a kind of guided tour of the cemetery and get details of the graves, with photos of them too. I believe this has been very popular with people who have ancestors from the area. You can take a look here:
