European seminar on semi-subsistence farming

A three day seminar in Sibiu, Romania will look at semi-subsistence farming in the European Union, the current situation and future prospects. The event takes place from 21st to 23rd April 2010. It is being organised by the European Network for Rural Development.

The event will feature a mix of plenary sessions, workshops and field visits. Speakers include Loretta Dormal Marino, Deputy Director General, DG AGRI, European Commission, Sophia Davidova, Reader in European Agricultural Policy, University of Kent and Antonis Constantinou, Director DG AGRI, European Commission.

Workshop topics are:

  • Semi-subsistnce farming concepts and key issues
  • Wider implications of semi-subsistence farming for society and the environment
  • Pathways for semi-subsistence farming - integration into the food chain, diversification
  • Reaching and supporting semi-subsistence farms
  • Presentations during workshops will come from a range of countries including Hungary, Ireland, Romania, Germany, Belgium and Poland.
