Friends of Volunteering Clydesdale will launch their Energy Efficiency Project at New Lanark on 20th March at the Renewable Event hosted by one of our partners, Strathclyde and Central Energy Saving Scotland Advice Centre.

The project is funded by the Scottish Government's Climate Challenge Fund and aims to help residents of Clydesdale reduce their carbon footprint and save money on energy.

We will engage with residents through partnerships with South Lanarkshire Council, community groups, housing associations, schools and local businesses. We will also be running regular roadshows including surgeries with local MSP Karen Gillon and all households will be encouraged to complete a Home Energy Check, designed by the Energy Saving Trust.

Trained Energy Champions will also undertake a home visit programme, ensuring residents receive a more focussed service and are made fully aware of the following:

  • Practical measures suitable for their home
  • Financial support available
  • Cost savings that could be achieved
  • Where appropriate, advice on fuel switching and renewable energy technologies

Negotiations are also underway for a community insulation scheme ensuring all residents of Clydesdale receive the most competitive prices available for cavity wall and loft insulation.

Project Manager James Kane says, "This is a project by the people of Clydesdale for the people of Clydesdale and we welcome input from all aspects of the community. Working together we can achieve real savings in both carbon reduction and money. All residents can benefit from the project and I have no doubt they will take great pride in it".

Clydesdale MSP Karen Gillon added, "This is an exciting opportunity for the area. It engenders the community spirit we are famous for and will not only make a difference to climate change but put money back into the pockets of the people of Clydesdale."

Why not come along to the launch on Saturday 20th of March to find out more about the project, including volunteering opportunities and how you can start making savings on your energy bills.

We will be there from 11am to 4pm and if you want any further information, to request a Home Energy Check or a home visit, please contact James Kane on 01555 663105.
