Scotland: National Rural NetworkThe youth project in Callander is considering purchasing a hotel to make it into a youth hub whilst also developing some social enterprising ideas from the new hub to generate income for the project. Does anyone know of any other youth projects doing anything similar? Or even other community projects purchasing a hotel to subsidise the costs of running their activities?

Youth Project
What a great idea, particularly in an area where the main economic driver is tourism. This sort of facility would provide so much more potential than a place simply to safely hang out. A hotel venue could add real value to their life skills as well as the local economy, in an area struggling to resource local training opportunities. I hope this idea progresses and other partnerships support it. Enterprising young people have more often had to leave their rural areas to develop their skills and ideas, maybe this project will allow those who want to stay, to do so and contribute to the sustainability of their community.
Girvan Youth Trust
At the Scottish National Rural Network regional event in Ayrshire we heard a really inspiring presentation from Bill Logan at the Girvan Youth Trust. They purchased a disused hotel which has been turned into a youth hub.
