Scotland: National Rural NetworkA number of prize winning cheeses from Connage Highland Dairy are now being stocked by Harrods, the world's most famous luxury department store. Connage Highland Dairy is a traditional, family owned, fully organic business, producing a range of top quality, artisan cheeses that are already award winners in their own right.
Producing a range which includes Clava Brie, Crowdie, Dunlop (Scottish cheddar), Smoked Dunlop and Cromal, Connage prides itself in its high animal welfare standards and quality control, as well as the quality and taste of its cheeses.
Following a ‘Meet the Buyer' event organised by industry body Scotland Food and Drink, Connage cheeses have been selected by the Harrods buying team.
Jill Clark, who, along with husband Callum, makes the cheeses on the family farm from home produced milk, says,"Ever since we started making cheeses back in 2006, we have been immensely proud of our range. In 2007 we won Gold at the World Cheese Awards with our Clava Brie and the Best Cheese in Scotland Award at the British Cheese Awards for our Crowdie, but to be supplying Harrods marks a real pinnacle.
"The Harrods Food Halls are known the world over and are always associated with the very best in food and drink. We were so thrilled when we heard that a shop with such history was keen to stock products from a small dairy in the Highlands.
"Our Smoked Dunlop is smoked by another small business, Delfour Hatchery, who smoke it traditionally with oak whisky barrel shavings. So it just goes to show that small businesses can supply the crème de la crème of retailers if they are delivering great taste."
Bruce Langlands, Director of the Harrods Food Halls, says, "At Harrods we are always interested in working in partnership with small artisan producers who offer products of exceptional quality and Connage Highland Dairy is a perfect example. We were truly impressed by the fantastic quality of their cheeses and are sure they will prove a resounding success with our customers."
