Name of fund: The Jubilee People's Millions

Brief description of funds

To mark the Queen's diamond Jubilee in 2012, the Big Lottery Fund has re-branded the People's Millions fund as the Jubilee People's Millions.  The scheme is for projects that will improve local places and the lives of local people. You can apply for up to £60,000 of funding.

Short-listed projects will be featured on ITV regional news with viewers invited to vote for their preferred option. To have a chance of winning you’ll need to inspire local people to get involved with your project. It’ll also need to capture the public’s imagination and persuade them to vote for you.

What activities does it fund?

Th Jubilee People's Millions wants to fund new projects that will improve local places or lives of people in your community. There has been a slight change of focus from previous years to reinvigorate the programme and encourage a broader range of innovative applications. Projects should be more about inspiring people rather than focusing on buildings and the environment.

Examples of projects that have received funding

Sea Change in Young People: Inspiring positive change in 84 disadvantaged young people through the challenge of adventure under sail. Enabling them to connect with Scotland’s spectacular coastline, right on their doorstep, in a way they have never done before.

Refurbishment of Keig Village Hall: The project will renovate the Aberdeenshire community hall used by the local community and Keig School. This will involve replacing a large existing single glazed window, insulation, replacing the floor and radiators, redecoration, purchasing a light sound system for the stage and fitting out a newly built kitchen.

Douglas Park Regeneration: The project will enable the group to create a play park facility aimed at children between 9 and 16 in the area of Kyle, Lochalsh. At present there are no suitable outdoor recreational facilities for this age group in the area. The play park will be situated in the centre of the village, making it easily accessible to the local community, and also to those people in the Lochalsh locality and parts of South Skye.

How much funding is available?

They have £3.6 million to give out and expect to make four awards in each ITV region. You can ask for between £20,000 and £60,000 (including VAT).

Who can apply?

You can enter if you’re a voluntary or community organisation, school, local authority or health body. They will also consider entries from branches of organisations or partnerships but won’t accept entries from other organisations or individuals.

Is there a deadline?

  • 27 – 30 June 2011 – Shortlisted entries go head-to-head on ITV regional news.
