Scotland: National Rural Network
The Rural Network team had a busy but fun few days at the Royal Highland Show. Coming and going over the show's four days were members of the team who deliver the Rural Network website and the Rural Direct service, along with representatives of some of Scotland's LEADER Local Action groups and the Scottish Government Rural Communities Division. We were based in the SEARS tent where, as well as giving information on the Rural Network and rural funding opportunities, there were quizzes and word searches for younger visitors. As an added attraction there was a free prize draw with a number of great prizes.
On occasion the team managed to escape the tent to get the full Highland Show experience. The event was buzzing and, according to the organisers, busier than ever. Even the Queen came. For a flavour why not browse our photo gallery.
As usual, the Show received extensive coverage in the Scottish press and media. Our favourite was an article by veteran rural correspondent Dan Buglass, who has attended every single Royal Highland Show since it stopped touring the country and settled at Ingliston in 1960. His verdict on this year's event echoes Tina Turner: "Simply the best - better than all the rest". You can find it on the Scotsman website here.
The exclusive Royal Highland Show Photo Competition was an opportunity to win fantastic hamper for the best picture taken at the Show. The winner of this competition was Fred Terris with his iconic show image of a Highland cow. You can see the other entries in the photo competition gallery.
In addition to this competition there was another opportunity to win a hamper with a draw open to everyone who had registered on this website by Friday 26th June. The winner is David Woodhouse from Mull, a regular Network contributor.
