Transition to powerdown

Fair Isle: one of the powerdown communities by Andreas Nilsson

Following the inspiration and example  of the transition town network the Community Powerdown project has been established Community Energy Scotland. Funded by the Scottish Government Climate Challenge Fund the Powerdown group covers communities from Fair Isle to Langholm, plus the Development Trust Association Scotland.

They have just launched a website which gives useful links to getting information on reducing your energy use, increasing community renewable energy generation and establishing local food production. The main emphasis of the site is on encouraging the 27 member community organisations to share information through discussion forums and photo galleries. Whether urine is good in a compost toilet seems to have sparked much recent debate.

To find out more about the work of the groups involved in the project take a look at the Community Powerdown website. For more information contact Helen Houston, Community Powerdown Co-ordinator, Community Energy Scotland, Tel: 01349 860 124 or email Helen.houston@communityenergyscotland.org.uk
