Have your say on Land Use Strategy

How do you think Scotland's land should be used in the future? The development of the country's first Land Use Strategy is a landmark opportunity for you to have your say on the way Scotland's land is used.

The Scottish Government are inviting you to have your say on the issues and help shape the draft strategy. So, if you have views on food production and food security, the development of renewable energy and the protection of landscapes and habitat, get along to one of the discussion workshops being held across the country or comment on their Land Use Strategy website.

Senior officials from the government, or Scottish Ministers, will attend each discussion workshop and explain work underway on the Strategy. Discussions will focus on key issues to be addressed in the Land Use Strategy, offering the opportunity to bring different perspectives to the debate. Key points from the proceedings will be recorded and summary notes posted on the Land Use Strategy website and this material will be used to develop the draft Strategy.

A full consultation on the Land Use Strategy will follow later in the year, but the Scottish Government are keen at this vital early stage to shape the draft with your help. Further details on the Land Use Strategy are available on the Land Use Strategy website, where you can also post comments.

I have had a look at the

I have had a look at the reports behind the land use consultation. There is much worthwhile background and a great deal of sound theory. Two things are lacking however. In the scenario situation too much belief in the resilience and competence of the systems involved is evident. A further scenario should always be added to these situations. That of bumbling incompetence, dither, hostility, obstructionism, denial and delay added to random shock events outwith "normal" scenarios. Foot and Mouth leaky drains and terrorism springs very readily to mind. The other is the total lack of capacity in the rural areas to deliver a even a fraction of the outcomes suggested in the present financial climate. Funding from banks no longer exists on any meaningful scale.
