Grassland & Clover Management Event in Mouswald, Dumfries

 

 As part of the Soil Association Climate Change Programme, a Grassland and Clover Management event is being held in Mouswald, Dumfries.

The technical session in the morning will include presentations from David Younie & Jimmy Goldie, SAC & James Bretherton, AgScope.

Topics to be covered include soil management for optimum grassland productivity, utilization, grass measurement & maximizing quality, choice of grass & clover species, establishment, nutrient management & weed control.

The event will also include a visit to Beyond the Burn courtesy of the Lochhead family, who run a herd of 135 pedigree Brown Swiss cows plus 150 followers. Winter feed includes red clover silage and fodder beet.

Future plans include increasing to 150 cows robotic milking with paddock rotational grazing system. With the end product being cheese. This will be a very practical day with considerable time out on the farm.

The cost is £40.00 plus VAT.
