Scotland: National Rural Network
Rural Scotland is in the process of switching over to a digital television system. Between now and 2012, analogue channels are being switched off region by region and replaced with free-to-air digital TV and radio
services (Freeview).
Many parts of rural Scotland, including Orkney, Shetland and the Scottish Borders have already switched over, and the switch is coming for other areas in the coming weeks and months.
If you're not sure when your region will be switching over, you can call the Digital Switchover advice line on 08456 50 50 50, or use the postcode checker on the Digital Switchover website.
On the Digital Switchover website you'll also find a useful help section with a step-by-step guide, details on how to retune your set and help videos. There is also a Help Scheme for those aged 75 and over, eligible for certain disability benefits, registered blind or partially sighted or living in care homes.
Roadshows and advice points will be visiting each area around the time of the switchover. You can find details of the events on the Digital Switchover website.
Grants are available for community outreach events to raise awareness of the switchover in your area. If you are interested in holding an event, you can download the Digital Outreach Grant Application Form from our documents library or get in touch with Rural Direct on 0845 838 8598 or email info@ruraldirect.org.uk.
Most televisions can be converted using a digital box, so don't throw out your existing TV!
