Rousay, Egilsay & Wyre Community Hall Renewable Heat Programme

Three community hall facilities will install wind turbines to increase energy efficiency and deliver other benefits.

Lead applicant: Rousay, Egilsay & Wyre Development Trust

The project will install a 6kW wind turbine in association with each of the three community hall facilities within the three-island community of Rousay, Egilsay and Wyre.  This will assist in the developing and sustaining the amenity of community facilities and resources on each of these islands through the coordinated use of novel renewable technologies.  The technology will provide affordable warmth and help reduce the facilities' running costs.

The project's other benefits include reduction of carbon emissions, small revenue creation to help in long-term running costs of facilities, and reduce damage from damp and cold.  The turbines will be self-sustaining after installation.  The freeing up of funds will allow each community to invest in or improve existing community endeavours.
