EDITOR’S NOTES
On this St Andrew’s Day enterprise is alive and well in rural Scotland! At the recent Rural Entrepreneur conference we heard a speaker argue strongly how there is more innovation, often borne of necessity, in rural than in urban areas.
Following that, the Development Trusts Association conference in Oban talked up the magnificent efforts of community groups in diverse places like Kirkconnel (heritage and digital projects), Tiree (broadband and wind), Acharacle (post office and ‘green’ projects) and Morvern (petrol supplies and office space).
And BBC’s Landward recently filmed Kinloch Rannoch’s successful community venture. It provides fuel, postal services, internet access, banking, meals and crafts to that small corner of Perthshire.Inspiring!
E-GOVERNMENT NATIONAL AWARDS 2005
It would be a bit of an understatement to say we were happy when we heard recently that the Rural Gateway had reached these finals, to be held in London on 25th January.
The awards are for excellence in e-government delivery in the UK. Reaching the final is a great reward for the efforts of our team in Inverness and partners in Edinburgh and Bristol. And a great way for us to celebrate Burns Night! See http://www.ruralgateway.org.uk/item/1113
