Rural Update: Issue 64
OPEN THE GATEWAY TO RURAL SCOTLAND
Welcome to the current issue of Rural Update, bringing you the latest content from the site. As a registered user you have elected to receive these regular newswires.
EDITOR’S NOTES
Has 2005 been the year of people power? The recent decision to maintain consultant-led maternity services in Caithness followed a long high-profile campaign by local people. Communities in Moray protested loudly about proposed school closures and the local council backtracked. Meanwhile, 12,000 objections to the proposed Beauly-Denny power line have flooded in from all over the country in time for this week’s deadline.
Rural Gateway users continue to tell us of their difficulties in receiving broadband. ‘Where is it?’ is a common complaint. It is an issue we will be featuring in greater depth next year. See http://www.ruralgateway.org.uk/item/880
