Cairngorms National Park Plan goes to Scottish Executive for approval
Public sector bodies operating in the Cairngorms National Park have officially submitted their plan for the park's future to Deputy Minister for the Environment and Rural Development Rhona Brankin for approval. The National Park Plan brings those involved in managing the park together to set out a shared long-term vision for the next 25 years of the park and also priorities for action for the period 2007-2012.
The submission of the plan follows discussions and consultations with the public and other interested parties. After Cairngorms National Park Authority board members approved the content of the plan, approval was sought from the 'Advisory Panel on Joined-Up Government'. This panel is made up of senior representatives from all the public bodies involved in the National Park, including Scottish Natural Heritage and Visit Scotland.
David Green, Convenor of the CNPA and Chair of the ‘Advisory Panel on Joined-Up Government’ said,
“Since the Plan went out for formal consultation in April it has gone through some very constructive changes having listened to the comments received. We would like to thank all those who took the time to have a look at the Draft Plan and make comments, all of which were extremely useful and have helped to improve and complete the Plan.”
“One of the general changes that we have made in response to comments received is that the Plan is now much clearer about what difference it will make in the long-term, to the people that live in the Park and its many visitors. There are quite clear statements about what the Plan seeks to achieve and how we can monitor progress to ensure that the Plan is making a difference, for example enhancing the natural heritage, growing tourism in a sustainable manner or improving the range of affordable housing.
“Together with our partners on the Joined-Up Government group in the Cairngorms we believe that we have now submitted a thorough and effective National Park Plan. We hope it meets with the approval of Ministers and that this is done as quickly as possible. As soon as we have the green light, the challenge will be to ensure that everyone is committed to making priorities outlined in the Plan happen. Only by building on the work of existing partnerships will we be able to look after and improve what we all value in this wonderful area.”
It is hoped that the Scottish Executive will approve the contents of the plan within a few months. In summer 2007, a copy of the approved plan will be distributed to every household within Cairngorms National Park. Copies of the published plan will also be available on request. You can download a copy of the Plan as submitted to the Scottish Executive here.
