Go wild in the isles at Mull & Iona wildlife week

Wild Isles logoOver 20 special events will make up the fifth Mull & Iona Wildlife Week, which takes place from 5th to 11th May 2007. This year, the event is part of Wild Isles 07, a series of events on Mull and Iona organised as part of Highland 2007.

Sea eagles, puffins, otters, whales, dolphins, deer and seals are just some of the wildlife treats that the islands have to offer.

A range of events will be taking place as part of the wildlife week, including a talk about mink and the devastation they can cause to nesting birds and a presentation by Guy Grieve, Mull resident, on his year long adventure in Alaska.

At Wings over Mull Bird of Prey and Conservation Centre, wildlife crime officer Constable Finlay Christine will give a presentation on the award-winning Operation Easter Eagle protection programme and children will be able to take part in a discover wildlife event complete with experiments and mini beasting!

Turus Mara will once again offer their special Wild Isles tour from Ulva Ferry to the Treshnish boat with a seafood barbeque prepared by local chef Tom Addy.

The National Trust for Scotland will have a staff member on the Isle of Staffa from Monday to Friday – making this a great time to visit. And Mull’s countryside Ranger Jan Dunlop will host three guided walks.

Full details of these events and more can be found on the Wild Isles website or by calling Craignure Tourist Information Centre on 01680 812 377.

The organisers are grateful to sponsors Highland 2007, Argyll & Bute Council and HIE, Argyll & the Isles Enterprise, Holiday Mull, Forestry Commission Scotland, National Trust for Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage, and the guest speakers and event hosts, without whom the Wildlife Week would not go ahead.
