European Geoparks Network - call for papers
The European Geoparks Network has issued a call for papers for presentations up to 15 minutes in length to be given at their conference to be held in Ullapool from 13th to 17th September 2007.The themes for the 7th European Geoparks Network open conference are:
- Discoveries in Earth Sciences: Historical Contributions from the Geoparks
- Cultural Landscapes: Language, People and Environment
- Making an Impact: Geoparks and Economy
- Sustainable Tourism: The Challenges and Experiences
- Environmental Priorities: Conservation Models for Working Landscapes
- Interpreting Our Environment: Biodiversity and Earth Heritage
- Traditional Agriculture in Geoparks: Tactics for Survival
- Discoveries in Earth Sciences: Current Contributions from the Geoparks
- Cultural Landscapes: Linking Culture, Geology and Environment
- Making an Impact: New and Aspiring Geoparks
- Sustainable Tourism: Guardianship and Development in the Geoparks
- Environmental Priorities: Climate Change and Conservation
- Interpreting Our Environment: Global Best Practice Examples
- Traditional Agriculture in Geoparks: Developing Local Produce
Themes 1-7 will be given on Friday 14th September and themes 8-14 on Sunday 16th September.
If you are interested, send your abstract of up to 300 words no later than Monday 30th July 2007 to abstracts@northwest-highlands-geopark.org.uk. All abstracts which are accepted will be included in a Conference Abstract Journal to be made available at the conference.
Presentations must be made using Microsoft Powerpoint. If your abstract is accepted you will be asked to submit, at arrival at the conference, your Powerpoint presentation and a written summary of no more than 1500 words on CD or memory stick.

More about the conference
The conference theme is Landscapes and People: Earth Heritage, Culture and Economy and it will examine the links between geology, culture and land use.
The programme offers a mix of presentations, workshops and field trips with evening entertainment including a ceilidh night and live music.
The conference will be held in the Macphail Centre in Ullapool, the North West Highlands Geopark lies 15km to the north.
