Maybe you have something to say about rural development? If so, you might want to head along to one of the Ministers’ Question and Answer evenings being held this summer.

The Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment Richard Lochhead and Minister for Environment Michael Russell will be touring rural Scotland this July and August to answer your questions and hear your views.

The first event took place in Dyce on 19th July 2007, with events in Wick, Fraserburgh, Dumfries, Benbecula, Stornoway, Newton St Boswells, Islay, Shetland and Orkney still to take place.

Either Richard Lochhead or Michael Russell will head the panel at the sessions. Senior officials from the government and non-departmental public bodies and agencies within their responsibilities will also be on the panel.

The Rural Affairs and Environment portfolio includes agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture, rural development, forestry, environment, natural heritage, land reform, water quality and sustainable development.

If you have a question about any of these areas, these events offer a great opportunity to put your view across and have your question answered. To submit a question for a specific meeting email listeningtoscotland@scotland.gsi.gov.uk. The Fraserburgh meeting on 1st August 2007 will focus on fisheries.

For further details on the events please go to the Scottish Executive website, some details are still to be confirmed.

Earlier this summer, Richard Lochhead agreed to answer questions from Rural Gateway users by email. A representative selection of your questions are now with the Cabinet Secretary and his replies will be published on the site soon.
