Markets to resume following Foot and Mouth outbreak

Image of Richard LochheadBreeding and store markets will resume in Scotland from 4th October, as long as there are no adverse developments in the Foot and Mouth outbreak. The number of affected premises in Surrey rose to eight on 30th September, when a case of the disease was confirmed on a farm near Wraysbury.

Richard Lochhead, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment, said, "Prime sale markets for slaughter can already resume from midnight on Sunday [30th September] but this further relaxation will give our farmers and the livestock industry a much needed boost."

You can find more detailed information about the Foot and Mouth outbreak, restrictions and what movements are allowed on the Scottish Government website or by calling their Foot and Mouth helpline number on 08451 553366.
