September photo competition gallery

Welcome to our September photo competition gallery, featuring the best of that month's submissions to our 'Living in rural Scotland' photo competition. This month photos feature drams, mussels and a spot of team building. To really appreciate the photos, click on them and you will be taken to a larger version.

Our competition is running throughout the year, so send your photos on the theme 'Living in rural Scotland' to editor@ruralgateway.org.uk.

And the winner is . . .

Untitled, copyright Rosie O'Hara

Rosie O'Hara won our September prize, with this lovely shot of Leon and Jim off to feed the sheep at Cantraybridge. Cantraybridge is an agricultural college for young adults with a disability.

Rosie takes photos mainly for pleasure, but last year one of her images was chosen for the front cover of Les Cameron's Scottish Memories CD, with the same photo also featuring in the Press and Journal.

You can read more about the winning shot in Farming fun for September photo competition winner.

This is Edie enjoying her mask at the Fish Pond at Falkland Estate. The photo was taken at a family fun day hosted by the Falkland Centre for Stewardship in August. Families enjoyed mask making, nature games, treasure hunts and a duck race. Helen explained that the pond has a special place in the heart of the community, and it will be de-silted this year, thanks to Heritage Lottery Funding.

Fiona sent this photo, taken in Eriskay, after she returned from a camping and cycling trip around the Southern Isles with a friend. They had just cycled round Barra and got the ferry back to Eriskay. Once they had set up camp on the machair by the beach they headed to the shore to enjoy the sunset with a well-earned dram! Fiona said the views and sunset were stunning.

Karl said, "This photo was taken at a farm outlet point (old fridge) with integral honesty tray (shelf in door) in the Borders. The eggs are very fresh, free range, organic, excellent value for money . . ." Looks like a great scheme!

Taken in Taynuilt in August. One-year-old mussels are about to be transferred from Loch Etive to Loch Melfort, where they will reach maturity before ending up on someone's plate.
