Deer strategy consultation open

Image of a red deer stagThe Deer Commission have published their draft Strategy for Wild Deer in Scotland, and the document is now open for public consultation until 1st February 2008.

The Deer Commission are encouraging all individuals and organisations with an interest in wild deer to contribute to the consultation. You can download a copy of the draft strategy from the Rural Gateway documents library, and will find a response form on the Deer Commission website.

The aim of the strategy is to increase the appreciation and benefits of wild deer to Scotland’s people and environment. It is designed to pull together and co-ordinate the management of wild deer at a Government level, in a way which is supported and shaped by all individuals and organisations involved in wild deer management.

The Deer Commission has been the lead on the joint strategy, with Scottish Natural Heritage, Forestry Commission Scotland, the Scottish Government. There has also been input from an advisory group made up of representative organisations.

You can find more information, including a good FAQ section about the strategy and consultation on the Deer Commission website.
