November photo competition winner - Fried of Scotland
Fiona Bird has won our November photo competition prize with this shot called 'Fried Mars Bars'.
The photo shows Fiona's son Xander enjoying the delights of a deep fried Mars Bar at an agricultural show in South Uist.
Norette Ferns, editor of the Rural Gateway said, "We are delighted with our penultimate monthly winner. We really liked this unusual shot of an unusual snack at an agricultural show, and thought the composition was dynamic and interesting. If you click on the image you will be taken to a larger version, where you will be able to see more clearly the background action.
"The deadline for December has been brought forward to 10th December. So, if you have been meaning to send a photo all year, do it this week! It's your last chance to enter our photo competition for 2007."
Deep fried snack not best in show
Xander said of this culinary experience, "Due to the underprivileged childhood for which I berate my parents on a daily basis, I had never sampled the delights of this most Scottish of dishes, and somewhat in a reaction to all the healthy eating mumbo jumbo (I'm just joking mum!) I was being peddled because of Mum's book, I thought I'd give it a try. Why not, I thought; it's only a quid. I can confirm for you that it tasted rank. And that's not a 'euch! McDonalds tastes rank' rank. It was properly horrible. Never again."
You can find out more about Fiona Bird on the Stirrin' Stuff website. Fiona and Dr Stephen Bird are the founders of Stirrin Stuff which works in partnership to educate children about food.
