January
In January we launched our 'Living in rural Scotland' photo competition. We have now chosen all 12 of our monthly winners, and you can decide which photo deserves the overall prize by voting in our photo competition poll.
February
In February, housing came top of our poll which asked what is the biggest issue facing rural Scotland. Our Getting to Know You feature was also launched on the site. If you would like to get involved in Getting to Know You, please send me an email at editor@ruralgateway.org.uk.

To tie in with the high profile Halls for All campaign, we published an inspiring story from Jenny Cleary in South West Australia on the importance of community buildings. Also in June, we published a round up of responses to the Scottish Rural Development Programme funding announcement.
July
In July, we sent out our 100th email newsletter. To celebrate we asked you to send in your nominations for 100 Best things in rural Scotland. The resulting list is a wonderful treasure trove of well-known favourites and hidden gems.
Also in July, the Halls for All campaign gathered momentum see Swinney signs Halls for All petition and Salmond briefed on Halls for All campaign.
August
There was bad news for rural Scotland in August, when an animal movement ban was imposed following an outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease in Surrey.
In August, we ran our series of reviews on the Carnegie Commission's Charter for Rural Communities. Four great contributions gave different perspectives on this important report and its recommendations. The Charter was the most downloaded document in 2007 on the Rural Gateway. Look out for more report reviews coming to the site in 2008.
September
It was conference report time in September. Norette Ferns headed to the European Geoparks Network Conference in Ullapool, while Sandra Hogg reported on the Initiative at the Edge conference in Barra.
October
Local consultations on the future of the post office network began in October. Don't forget to take part in your local consultation, you can find out more in Your local post office - have your say.
Rural development funding - key facts for communities gave more information on the Scottish Rural Development Programme 2007-2013. You can find out more about the SRDP by downloading the information pack from the Gateway document library.
November
In November, a new report from the Scottish Consumer Council found that Scotland's rural voice is not being heard. We also had a special report from John Gold giving an update on the Communities on the Edge project.
December
In December, we launched a major new feature called the Great Rural Debate. We chose housing as our first issue for debate. Derek Logie from the Rural Housing Service and Ian Bailey, frustrated first time buyer gave their views on the issue of affordable housing and planning. We've had a great response so far. So don't forget to give us your thoughts on the comment so far and vote in our poll to have your say.
