RURAL UPDATE: ISSUE 92
30 March 2007
Catch up with the latest news from the Rural Community Gateway
http://www.ruralgateway.org.uk/

EDITOR'S NOTE
Social Enterprise is high on the agenda at the moment, and I was
delighted to be able to attend the recent Supporting Social
Enterprise in a Rural Setting event, held in Dunkeld. The day was
inspirational, with a great keynote speech from James Hilder of Mull
& Iona Community Trust. Unfortunately, due to public transport
timetables I missed the presentation on 'Bridging the transport gap'!
Staying with the Social Enterprise theme, you can find the recently
published Social Enterprise Strategy in our documents library, and
our latest Your project is on the Social Enterprise Academy. I love
it when a plan comes together!

PHOTO COMPETITION
The photo competition is certainly in full swing now! Thanks to all
who have submitted photos. The competition will run throughout the
year, so submit your images on the theme 'Living in rural Scotland'
to mailto:editor@ruralgateway.org.uk The March winner will be
announced in the next few days and the gallery will follow shortly.

YOUR PROJECT
Our latest project to feature is very fitting given that the Social
Enterprise Strategy has just been published. Jackie Scutt, Director
of the Social Enterprise Academy tells us more about the project,
including their new prospectus.
See http://www.ruralgateway.org.uk/item/1660

We have some great projects coming soon, including the Rural Skills
Course at Balfron High School and the Highland Alternative Music
project. If you have a project that you think would make for a good
article, drop me an email at mailto:editor@ruralgateway.org.uk

RURAL ANSWERS
Do you know of organisations that might be able to provide funding
for a new build B&B that caters for disabled people? And what do you
think about the cost of getting to dentist appointments. Should funds
be available to help those on low incomes with travel costs? These
are just two of the questions currently being asked on Rural Answers
- can you help?
See http://www.ruralgateway.org.uk/ruralanswers/

DOCUMENTS LIBRARY
In our documents library you will find the Social Enterprise Strategy
document, responses to the recent Department of Trade and Industry
consultation on the future of the post office network, the Cairngorms
National Park Plan, the Outer Hebrides Migration Study Final Report
and much more.
See http://www.ruralgateway.org.uk/ruraldocs/

FUNDING SURGERY
If you have a question about funding, why not visit our funding
surgery? Here, you can have a look at previous questions and
discussions about funding and ask your own questions. Chances are that if
you are asking something, other people are thinking about the same
thing, or have experiences and knowledge they can share.

FUNDING NEWSWIRE
Sandra Hogg, who writes our highly popular Funding Latest articles,
also produces a very informative monthly newswire to keep you up to
date with funding news.
