Your project - Big Tent Festival

What's your project?

The Big Tent Festival, Scotland’s Festival of Stewardship is a weekend of celebrations, music, art and creativity which champions the work of the environmental movement and those concerned with the conservation of the living world.

Where is it?

Our event now in its third year is held on Falkland Estate against the magnificent backdrop of Falkland Palace.

Who's involved?

A whole host of environmental, conservation and green organisations and companies take part and will feature in our  expanded zones this year featuring environmental lifestyle, renewable energy, holisitic therapies and treatments and childrens zones.

Our food village organised by top chef and food author Christopher Trotter will feature the freshest local and organic food whilst the brand new big ‘hullaballoo’ music tent will showcase a stirring line up of serious ‘Celtic and World Music’ talent from international recording artists.

How is it funded?

Fife Council, EventScotland, the Scottish Arts Council and Carnegie have provided most of the support but we are getting better at attracting private sponsorship from local and national sponsors. It’s all one great big learning curve.

When is it funded to?

Fife Council funding was secured for three years under 2008 and the rest is secured on a year on year basis. 2008 will be an important year for us if we are to secure the event in future years!

Biggest achievement so far?

Lasting three years!  Honestly I think that we had no idea what we were taking on back then as fresh faced idealists, we’ve had to learn an awful lot in a very short period of time.

Any downsides so far?

The weather!
Any advice needed from Rural Gateway users?
