EDITOR'S NOTE
Welcome to a bumper edition of Rural Update. First off, we have news of
the SCVO campaign urging the Scottish Executive to tackle the
"slow-burning crisis" in village halls. The campaign has already
attracted media coverage, with Sandra Hogg (the Gateway's funding expert)
making a live appearance on Radio Scotland. An e-petition is also

The Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment Richard
Lochhead MSP recently announced funding plans for the Scottish Rural
Development Programme. You can find out more about the plans and read

ASK THE CABINET SECRETARY
We are delighted that the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the
Environment, Richard Lochhead MSP, has agreed to answer a selection of
questions from Rural Gateway users. Please send your questions for

Friday 15th June 2007. We will forward a representative selection to
the Cabinet Secretary and publish the responses at the earliest
opportunity.
