RURAL UPDATE: ISSUE 98
29 June 2007
Catch up with the latest news from the Rural Community Gateway

EDITOR'S NOTE
The Gateway has gone global. Our exciting new regular feature,
International Spotlight, will look at rural issues from an
international perspective, focus on projects and bring you good
practice from around the world. Our first International Spotlight
looks at the importance of community buildings, with a story coming
all the way from South Australia.
See http://www.ruralgateway.org.uk/item/1855
Talking of community buildings, SCVO's Halls for All campaign is
gathering momentum, with over 700 signatures on the e-petition and
hundreds more being gathered on paper across the country. There is
still time to sign the petition, which urges the Scottish Executive
to tackle the slow burning crisis in village halls.

INTERNATIONAL SPOTLIGHT
Do you work with rural projects in other countries? Are there
examples of good practice or great projects you would like to tell us
about? Perhaps you live and work abroad and have a story to share? If
you'd like to take part in our new International Spotlight feature,
get in touch by emailing mailto:editor@ruralgateway.org.uk.
PHOTO COMPETITION
As we approach the half way mark of our 'Living in rural Scotland'
photo competition, I am pleased to say that it shows no signs of
slowing down. In fact, our June gallery looks set to be one of the
best so far. Look out for the June winner being announced on Monday
2nd July, with the gallery following later in the week. In the
meantime, take a look at our archive.
See http://www.ruralgateway.org.uk/item/1608
And don't forget to send your photos to
mailto:editor@ruralgateway.org.uk. Remember, we are looking for
photos that represent living and working in rural Scotland. Maybe you
have great shots from the Royal Highland Show or the Outsider
Festival, for example.
YOUR PROJECT
In our latest Your Project, Anni Stonebridge tells us about SMART
Recovery, a non-profit making, volunteer based organisation which
provides free self help groups and support for people who want
to tackle drinking or drug problems and addictive behaviour.
See http://www.ruralgateway.org.uk/item/1829
If you would like to take part in this feature and tell rural
Scotland about your project, email me at mailto:editor@ruralgateway.org.uk.
GETTING TO KNOW YOU
Getting to know you is our regular feature where people who use the
site tell us a bit more about themselves and their area. We are
currently looking for people to take part, if you are interested
please get in touch by emailing mailto:editor@ruralgateway.org.uk.
