RURAL UPDATE: ISSUE 107
2 November 2007
Catch up with the latest news from the Rural Community Gateway

EDITOR'S NOTE
Although it seems that Christmas cards and selection boxes have been
on sale for months already, it is always the beginning of November
that spells the start of the festive build up for me. And then comes
the realisation that the year is almost over. I say this because I
can't believe there are only two months left of our 'Living in rural
Scotland' photo competition. I've been delighted with the response
we've had so far, with ten great winners chosen. So, if you've been
meaning to submit a photo, but haven't got round to it yet, do it
now! There are only two months left before the online poll to decide
which image deserves the title Rural Gateway Photo of the Year 2007.
Take a look at our archive to see our winners and best entries so
far.

PHOTO COMPETITION
Ewen Munro has won October's photo competition with 'Sailing! With a
smile'. Ewen is a youth worker for the Hope 2 Oban project. His
winning shot was taken at a Wacky, Wet and Dry event the project
hosted in partnership with outdoor education providers Stramash. It
certainly looks like it was a fun day out!

The October gallery will be on the site very shortly.

YOUR PROJECT
The Hope 2 Oban project is also the latest to feature in our Your
Project series.

touch by emailing mailto:editor@ruralgateway.org.uk.

ANY ADVICE ON SLOWING TRAFFIC?
In our Rural Answers section, Neil Paterson asks if anyone has had
success in slowing traffic in their village. Villagers who live along
the A926 complain that cars ignore speed restrictions and speed
through villages. How can the village of Airlie be made safer from
speeding cars? Has your community had success in slowing traffic?
Do you have any knowledge or experience that might help the village
of Airlie? If so, please post your comment in our Rural Answers section.

colourful, easy to read guide gives some top tips for marketing
success and features a series of case studies.
