Grants for landowners to build homes for rent

Image of house being built The Scottish Government is currently inviting rural landowners to submit expressions of interest to take part in their new Rural Homes for Rent Pilot Scheme. The scheme will fund additional new build affordable housing for rent in rural areas.

The three-year pilot was announced by Minister for Communities and Sport Stewart Maxwell at the Rural Housing Services Conference in February 2008. The pilot aims to produce an estimated 100 homes for affordable rent in rural areas with pressured housing markets. £5m will be available over the three years.

The grant is targeted at rural landowners where there is a housing and homelessness need and where a site is suitable located for social housing. Guidance Notes on the scheme are available on the Scottish Government website.
