More young people invited to have their say on living and working in the Highlands and Islands
Safe, beautiful and friendly, but a bit boring, remote and with limited opportunities. These are some of the perceptions of life in the Highlands and Islands today for the many hundreds of young people who have already completed a major online survey from Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
The survey is seeking to discover what the deciding factors are for young people choosing to stay, return or move to the Highlands and Islands. And all 15 to 30 year olds who live in the region, have moved away from the area, or may be interested in moving to the Highlands and Islands in the future are being encouraged to have their say before the survey closes in a few weeks time.
Ruth Sime, Development Manager with HIE’s Population Growth Team said, "The survey has been profiled on the Rural Communty Gateway site for a few weeks and we have already had a great response from young people from across the Highlands and Islands as well as from other parts of Scotland and elsewhere in the world."
“Clearly a lot of young people feel really passionate about the area, and that is good for the region’s future prospects. However, we are keen to hear from even more young people before the survey ends. So, if you are lucky enough to be in the 15 to 30 age group, please log on to www.youthmigration.org/ and encourage your friends to do the same. If you are a little older, please pass the survey details on to young people in your family, organisation or community. Remember, you don’t need to live in the Highlands and Islands to take part in the survey – we also want to understand the perceptions of the area from young people living elsewhere, especially those who may choose to move to the area in the future."
The survey findings will form part of a comprehensive report from Highland and Islands Enterprise into the migration choices of people aged 15 to 30 and what policies might be needed to attract and retain more young people in the area.
The survey can be filled in online at www.youthmigration.org and should only take around 10 minutes to complete. Twenty five participants, chosen at random, will be sent a £20 Amazon voucher as a thank you for taking part.
